BEKELE YUTUTE COE "AFRO FUNK #8"
Farmer: Bekele Yutute
Origin: Sidamo, Ethiopia
Process: Natural anaerobic
Varietal: 74158 Heirloom
Roast level: Light
In the cup: boysenberry, honeydew melon, white strawberry
In 2024, Bekele Yutute placed 4th at Cup Of Excellence. This is a reproduction of that lot. An anaerobic natural with tons of incredible complexity. It needs lots of time to rest. It needs care when brewing, but it's such a rewarding, delicious coffee. Super sweet, floral, a tad funky...this coffee has everything in it. It's one of the best lots we had from that harvest. Please enjoy and drink often ; )
ABOUT BEKELE
Bekele Yutute farms just under 4 hectares in the highlands of Bensa, Sidama, at elevations reaching 2,300–2,350 meters. The farm, Denbi, grows primarily 74158, a JARC selection known for cup quality and resistance to coffee berry disease.
For many years Bekele sold cherries to cooperatives. In recent seasons he began processing and exporting his own coffee, working with small family-run drying sites including Kokose and Murago.
His coffees are typically natural or anaerobic natural, dried slowly on raised beds after meticulous cherry selection.
The lot we purchased is part of a wave of coffees from the region that are redefining what Ethiopian naturals can be.
