ABOUT HAFI CO-OP & JNP

Meet JNP Coffee, an exporting company founded by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian, a Burundian-born trailblazer who turned her Harvard MBA and love for homegrown coffee into a mission: bring the world’s attention to Burundi’s small but mighty producers — and make sure they thrive doing it.

Now zoom in on the HAFI region — “Hafi” means “close” in Kirundi, and that name is no accident. For years, farmers here had to trek over 20 kilometers just to find a washing station. We're talking muddy roads, steep hills, and baskets of cherries on their heads. It was exhausting, and it meant losing out on quality — and income. (And WE think we have it hard.)

Enter JNP and the community-led Hafi Co-op. Together, they built a washing station right next to the farms. Game-changer. Suddenly, farmers could process their cherries the same day they were picked — preserving sweetness, boosting cup quality, and cutting out backbreaking labor.

Now? Hafi coffees are bright, jammy, and full of character — just like the people who grow them. Through JNP’s Dushime™ Program, farmers (especially women) earn premiums, gain financial literacy, and become leaders in their communities.

This isn’t just a good coffee. It’s a celebration of self-determination, shared effort, and the joy of a truly local cup making it's way across the world.
